Frequently asked questions

Does Scores Cat need access to my files or microphone?

Microphone access is requested only when you tap Listen to follow a score; pitch is processed in the browser. File access happens only when you choose to import MusicXML — the app does not scan your device.

Is Scores Cat free?

Yes. Search, preview, import, and follow-along are free in the browser. There is no subscription or paid tier.

What devices and browsers does it support?

Scores Cat is a web app. It runs in current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop and mobile. Follow-along needs a microphone and a browser that allows microphone access.

How does follow-along work?

Open a score and tap the microphone. The app matches the notes you play and turns the page when you finish the ones on screen. You can loosen matching by a tone or two if the room is noisy.

What scores and files can I open?

Search the OpenScore library, star favourites, or drop MusicXML and MXL files. Other notation formats are not imported.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Favourites stay in this browser. Imported files live in the dataset on the server that hosts the app, with no sign-in.
